Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Since her father had left the family, it was taken care of by her grandmother, mom as well as godparents. As a young infant, Ford struggled with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder caused by word associations. Ford's love for acting grew when she was young. She joined in the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after only a week she decided it wasn't the right fit for her. Ford applied instead for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and finally won the position she wanted on her third attempt. Shaun Dingwall - who later was the character Pete Tyler in Doctor Who - was one of her fellow students. Ford's first appearance on television was an episode in 1991 called Surgical Spirit. By the moment she was done with school, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate began her TV debut in 1991and appeared in shows such as The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Apart from her regular theatre work, Tate joined in the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate was recognized for her comedy stand-up and became part of her repertoire in 1996.
